All Hallows by
the Tower
The Beating of the Parish Bounds will take place this year
on Thursday, 17th May.
Held annually on Ascension Day, a mediaeval ceremony to reaffirm
the bounds of the Parish, and remind its younger members of the
extent of ‘their’ territory.
The procession leaves the church at 3.15pm, and moves
to each boundary point, stopping at each to allow pupils of St
Dunstan’s College (who return for the day to the original site of
their school at St Dunstan’s in the East) to cane the fence,
ground, or the surface of the Thames, as appropriate (a harness is
provided for the latter). Blessings and prayers are said
at each stop, as they always have been.
All Tower-Warders are welcome, whether business or resident.
